History

  • 1972

    Founding of METAGRO

Coffee machine dealer Ing. Peter H. Reuschel identified a niche in the market: offering bespoke stainless-steel furniture for the hospitality sector. Personal ties to Hainfeld (Lower Austria) enabled him to build a 1,500 m² production hall and a 100 m² office “on a greenfield site”.
The chosen company name, METAGRO, in German stands for METAl and GROßküche (commercial kitchen).
  • 1973

    Start of Production

Production began with 14 employees. The technical know-how was contributed by the then co-owner, Patzner GesmbH in Bad Mergentheim (today PALUX). Manufacturing followed the tradition of a master craftsman’s workshop – producing custom-made items and medium batch sizes.
  • 1980

    First Major Contract

The company received its first major contract: constructing a kitchen for 8,000 meals at the CA Technical Centre (today UniCredit Bank Austria), with an order volume of approx. €500,000.
  • 1982

    Start of Refrigerated Furniture Production

METAGRO began producing GastroNorm and beverage refrigeration units.
  • 1984

    First International Trade Fair

First participation in an international trade fair: the IKK in Nuremberg.
  • 1988

    Purchase of Punching Machine

With the acquisition of a CNC-controlled punching machine (Trumatic 240), the era of CAD-based design began.
  • 1994

    Stainless-Steel Furniture Design

Graz-based designer Hans-Peter Rainer created stainless-steel furniture for the Nuremberg Autumn Fair.
  • 1997

    New Office Building

A new 750 m² office building was constructed following an architectural competition. Designed by architect Loistl, the building features a light-filled entrance area that has become a popular meeting place for employees and customers alike.
The cantilevered visual supports form a striking architectural counterpart to the elongated production hall and attract the attention of architecture enthusiasts.
  • 1999

    Laser Cutting System

The introduction of a laser cutting system opened up new possibilities in sheet metal processing. Even the most complex contour cuts could now be made – without the need for expensive tooling.
  • 2001

    New Production Hall

A new 2,400 m² hall was built, increasing total production and storage space to 7,700 m². By this time, METAGRO was manufacturing not only stainless-steel furniture for commercial kitchens, but also high-end domestic kitchens and products for shopfitting and outdoor applications.
  • 2003

    Welding Automation

With specially designed welding machines, production of stainless-steel hygiene furniture in H1, H2 and H3 according to DIN 18865-9 commenced.
  • 2004

Acquisition of Rech & Founding of Rech Mechatronik

METAGRO acquired Rech Kühlanlagen and founded its subsidiary Rech Mechatronik in Vienna. This strategic move established METAGRO as a specialist in refrigeration technology.
The new company is responsible for the planning, installation and maintenance of refrigeration systems.
  • 2008

    Stainless Steel Design Award

METAGRO received the Stainless Steel Design Award 2008 at the Vienna Tec trade fair for the production of a champagne refrigerator.
  • 2012

Acquisition of Second Laser Cutting System

A second laser cutting system was purchased. Equipped with suction arms, it enables scratch-free sorting of laser-cut sheets, allowing small batch sizes with specialised cuts to be produced at attractive prices.
  • 2013

    40th Anniversary Celebration

METAGRO celebrated its 40-year anniversary as a reliable partner for professional kitchen and shopfitting specialists. During the festivities in the CNC production hall, the “3klang Choir Rohrbach” performed an unforgettable live stainless-steel percussion set.
  • 2015

    Swingline Hygiene Design

The Swingline hygiene version (H1M), featuring a seamless cabinet base, became METAGRO’s new standard product line. The newly designed front panels with curved handles offer enhanced comfort and visual appeal.
  • 2016

    Modernisation of Machinery

Modernisation of the machinery: the CO₂ laser was replaced by a new solid-state laser. With nearly double the cutting speed and 66% energy savings, this upgrade ensures continued short delivery times and an environmentally future-proof production process.
  • 2017

    Deburring Machine

A specialised deburring machine was acquired, further raising METAGRO’s quality standards. Additionally, a new special welding machine now allows semi-automatic corner welding of up to half a metre.
  • 2018

    45 Years of METAGRO

METAGRO celebrated its 45th anniversary with around 500 visitors at an open-day event showcasing the production facilities.
  • 2019

    Office Extension

A two-storey office extension added 260 m² of space, creating room for twelve additional workstations. In addition to achieving seamless architectural integration with the existing building, the main focus was on ergonomic workstation design.
